DEFENDERS-5 (Original)

DEFENDERS stands for Duty Equality Freedom Extra-National Defenders of Earth Region Super-heroic. DEFENDERS is an organized network of super-powered agents. DEFENDERS is the modern descendant of the legendary Liberty Defenders of World War II.

DEFENDERS has chapters in most major cities. Each chapter consists of 5-6 super-powered beings. Each chapter reports to an administrator assigned to coordinate the activities of all affiliated super-powered beings within that theater of operations. Each chapter is given a numerical designation. For example, the Pacific City Chapter is known as DEFENDERS-5. DEFENDERS-6 is located in Portland and DEFENDERS-28 is headquartered in San Francisco.

DEFENDERS-5 currently consists of Bolter, Arclight, El Montana, Typhoon, and Myst. An earlier roster included Cosmic Storm, the Kyle, Shield Maiden, String Theory, and Wounded Knee, all of whom have either been reassigned or have retired from service.

Cosmic Storm

Mercury Astronaut Major Erik Lee, forced to perform a spacewalk to effect repairs on his Mercury capsule, was sucked into space by a freak cosmic storm and died. Unbeknownst to him, the storm was actually an interstellar entity, a being of perception but not consciousness. The storm entity bonded with Erik's dying mind and the two became one. Erik now has the knowledge, experience, and powers of the entity that gave him life, the entity now has consciousness and sentience. The two are now one, should they be split, Erik would die and the entity would lose sentience. Together, they fight crime as Cosmic Storm!

The Kyle

Teenage superstar Corey Stryker was little more than a spoiled rich movie star with millions of dollars and a throng of adoring fans when he was abducted aliens and endowed with the power of regeneration. His comrades know little of why the aliens gave him or why Corey chose the code name The Kyle. Now Corey uses his power, along with the multi-function utility weapon known as the "Kylenator" designed and given to him by former child hero Bluejay, to fight crime as The Kyle!

Shield Maiden

K'Sar M'Roan fled the oppression of her homeworld and the evil Tyrannian Overlords. Her spaceship finally crashed on Earth where she sought asylum. The Guardian, protector, ambassador, and symbolic hero of Earth, provided her safe haven and helped her find her way in her new home. With the Guardian's tutelage and help, K'Sar used her engineering skills and alien technology to create a suit of battle-armor and force field bucklers. Now she fights crime as Shield Maiden!

String Theory

UCPC graduate physicist Jared Elbright was on the verge of scientifically proving the controversal String Theory once and for all unifying Quantum Physics with Astrophysics under one theory of everything. His rival, the unscrupulous Prof. Mossfelder, a rival who had built his career on the idea that String Theory was unprovable and bad science, sabotaged Elbright's experiment and caused an unexpected accident. Jared is now stuck between 10 dimensions, never fully manifesting in any one of them. In addition, Jared now has the power to control the 4 fundamental forces of the universe: Electromagnetism, Strong Nuclear Force, Weak Nuclear Force, and Gravity. He uses his gift to fight crime as String Theory!

Wounded Knee

Silver Fox is the wealthy owner of the Promised Lands, an upscale casino on Promise Island just offshore from Pacific City. In her youth, she was an Olympic sprinter with a promising career. In 1999, she suffered a terrible fall that tore her knee and ended her running career. She sought the best medical help and physical training, but nothing worked. Desperate, she turned to her estranged grandfather, a reclusive shaman, for alternative healing. To her surprise, not only was her knee healed, she was now endowed with superhuman speed. Silver Fox felt using her powers to compete would be disingenuous, so she decided to devote her abilities to fighting crime as Wounded Knee!
