The Ultra-Teens

The Ultra-Teens are a group of super-powered kids assigned to Francis Gary Powers High School in Pacific City. The kids are given real-world superhero assignments as part of their DEFENDERS training by a faculty adviser Tina Le Fay (aka Fairy Princess, descendant of Morgan Le Fay). Part of their grade is their ability to keep their super-hero identities a secret from their class-mates. 

Kid America

When on his way home from school one day, young Mark Mason found himself in the middle of one of the most well known confrontations of our time: Captain Freedom vs. Atomicus in a fight to the death. The Fight was that of legend! Unfortunately for all of Pacific City, Captain Freedom was Defeated.

As Captain Freedom lay helpless the Atomicus began to taunt the crowd with his victory. Not far away, Mark felt the overwhelming need to help Captain Freedom. As he ran to aid the fallen hero, the Atomicus turned and let go a large burst of radiation. With the last bit of strength Captain Freedom possessed, he jumped to life and intercepted the burst of radiation from hitting the young boy. This selfless act was the last Captain Freedom would ever take. Several other heroes arrived at this point and drove off the Atomicus but there was nothing to be done for the dying Captain Freedom.

Mark stood shocked and helpless looking down on the lifeless body of his hero! The shattered shield that once protected Captain Freedom lay scattered on the ground. Mark, crying, slowly leaned down and took a small piece of the Shield. Later, Mark crafted the fragment into a ring. When worn, Mark discovered that he could create and manipulate force fields like his mentor, Captain Freedom, and a new hero was born!

To this day Mark still has nightmares of that fatal day but never talks about it. He feels he must do as much good as he can to replace the fallen Captain Freedom. In some small ways he feels reasonable for his death. If he would have only stayed back and not tried to help Captain Freedom might still be here.

When not in school or fighting crime with the Ultra Teens, Mark practices football and hopes to be a starting quarterback. Currently, Mark is second behind senior Brad Johnson. Mark's father is a teacher and his mother is currently serving time at Pacific City Penitentiary.

Kid Strange

Kid Strange is really Seann Hamilton, high school junior. Seann is secretly the grandson of the man who later became the Atomicus. One day, while exploring old effects in his grandmother's attic, Seann found a mysterious cloak. The cloak had been exposed to experimental radiation and had become mysteriously alive. When Seann put the cloak on, it bonded with his skin and became a part of his body. Seann soon learned he could retract the cloak into the base of his neck between his shoulder-blades, and that it gave him amazing mental powers.

Seann lives with his single mother in the Heights, one of the more comfortable areas of Pacific City. His mother, known to his friends as "Hamilton's Mom", is a heavy drinker and a shameless flirt. Seann also has an annoying little brother named Steve. At some point, Seann was held back a grade in school.

When Seann Hamilton isn't in school or fighting crime, he is the center mid-fielder for the school Lacrosse team.

Kid Knight

Kid Knight, also know as Knight Templar, is secretly Sammy Ritter, high school junior. Sammy inherited an amulet from his father, an archaeologist who died overseas under mysterious circumstances. The seal was found in some ruins in Nova Scotia, rumored to be a Templar stronghold built in Pre-Columbian times to house the Holy Grail. When held and the words "Sigillum Militum Christi" spoken aloud, the wielder is transformed by the spirit of the Knights Templar into a powerful armored warrior. The ancient enemy of the order of the Knights Templar is the arch-devil Baphomet, who succeded in disbanding the order during the Middle Ages.

In junior high, Sammy had a reputation for being a geek. When he started high school, Sammy has done everything he could to erase that image and leave that old clique behind. Despite his attempts, the nerd clique at the high school has latched on to him and won't seem to let go.

Fuego Negro

Fuego Negro, or the Black Flame, is secretly Juan Pedro Munoz, high school sophomore. Juan is the son of Fire Chief Hector Munoz and District Attorney Anna Munoz. Juan is the younger brother of up-and-coming super-model Maria Munoz, who is secretly the superhero Calliente. Prior to her acceptance into the Defenders of the Earth, Fuego Negro served as sidekick to Calliente. Juan and Maria were born in Denver, Colorado, and moved to Pacific City two years ago. Born and raised in the United States, Juan and Maria do not speak Spanish and chafe under the cultural expectations and stereotypes heaped upon them.

Juan and Maria gained their powers when they were young children. Their unscrupulous uncle, Victor Munoz, attempted to sacrifice the children while on vacation in Mexico, hoping to gain the favor and powers of Xiuhcoatl, the Aztec Fire Serpent, the personification of drought and destruction. Ometecuhtli, an Aztec god of fire, saved the children and bestowed upon them the powers of fire control with which to fight the evil Xiuhcoatl.

When not in school or fighting crime with the Ultra Teens, Juan trains to be an actor and stars in several school plays. He is currently rehearsing for the role of Curly McLain in the stage musical "Oklahoma!"

Vespa

Vespa is secretly Johnny Shakespear, high school junior and son of the international super-genius and inventor Dr. Harley Shakespear. With his father's help, Johnny re-built the Vespa given to him on his 16th birthday into a transforming suit of power armor that increases his strength and power. When not in school or fighting crime with the Ultra Teens, Johnny enjoys after-school activities such as the Cheer Squad and is captain of the Chess Club.
